I’m planning to start one more series about cloud solution from VMware it is vCloud Director.

In this article, we will run through the process of upgrading vCloud Director 8.20 to 9.1.

  1. First of all you want to take your vCD cell to the maintenance mode , quisce the cell:
    cd /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin ./vmware-vcd-cell maintenance
    ./cell-management-tool -u administrator -p P@ssw0rd cell -status
    ./cell-management-tool -u administrator -p P@ssw0rd cell -quisce true
    ./cell-management-tool -u administrator -p P@ssword cell -maintenance true
  2. Copy the binaries of vcloud director 9.1 and execute permissions to it and run the script:
    chmod u+x vmware-vcloud-director-distribution-9.1.0-7905839.bin
  3. Wait for the installation to be completed.
  4. Run the upgrade the database(make the backup):
  5. Start the services.
